Free Download: Ringworld Zombie

Update: Ringworld Zombie is now available with all new artwork, as a print-on-demand high quality card deck from DriveThruCards. It's most fun with three or four players, but you can play solo too!

According to Rob Lang I now probably deserve a place in the special padded room for those who could not resist doing two 24-hour RPGs for the same competition. Yet, here is my second one:

RINGWORLD  Z O M B I E

It's a fast, fully illustrated, game-masterless card game (and a simple role playing game) involving a Ringworld, you playing prisoners, and... Zombies!

You can order the game from DriveThruCards here. Rules are on the cards, and/or a free pdf ruleset can be downloaded from here.

Free Download: SSN-589 USS SCORPION DOWN

I'm at it again! Instead of doing normal work, I've just finished an entry to the 24-hour RPG competition "Little Spaces". I'll put it here so you can download and play (test) it straight away!

SSN-589 DOWN is a role playing game written for the 24-hour RPG competition of May-June 2012. It's fast paced, game-master-less, cooperative and competitive at the same time, and best with three players or more. All you'll further need is these rules, a deck of playing cards, a different pawn for each player, and a coin.

It is late in May 1968, in the middle of the Cold War and the Vietnam conflict. Far out in the Atlantic, Nuclear Attack Sub Scorpion breaks all radio contact. Then, for reasons unknown, the vessel sinks to critical depth. Its hull cracks. 99 men and women are lost. What happened?

You are captain, crew and VIP guests on board, starting twenty-four hours earlier. Will you learn what went wrong? Can you change history, and save their lives?

You may download the 24-hour version for free here - or go to 1kM1kT to get it there.

Old Free Download: Dark Dungeon Character Sheets

Update: Dark Dungeon's new edition is named
The World Beyond.

Most players in our group just scribble their character stats on a piece of paper. Or they have a special booklet for each hero they play. Or they constantly lose their character sheets. Or they spill hot coffee on them (to age the sheet artificially I suppose). Or... they have complete filing systems in their briefcases, weighing a ton each.

You don't need to do any of these things. You can just download and print these character sheets. Male or female. Fill them out. And have them with you always.

Update: these files have been offline for a while. You can now download free The World Beyond hero sheets from RPGNow.

Free Download: Island of Samaris

Update: You can no longer download the old free Samaris Island of Adventure supplement, though you might find it floating around on the web. Instead you can buy the full color 300+ page Samaris book, which contains an immensely enhanced, fleshed out version of the city. Or, if you're not sure if it's your cup of tea, you can first try The World Beyond RPG sampler for a ridiculously low price. This booklet contains samples from Samaris too.

The new Samaris Game Companion

And a map from the old one

The old  Dark Dungeon 2nd Ed. Samaris setting was used in our own gaming group for many years, and featured in hundreds of our adventures. The new Samaris is updated for The World Beyond (the commercially available update of Dark Dungeon), and is a full color book with special tools to engage your players (or your game master!), and make your city games easier and more fun. It also features a hundred contacts, a hundred location descriptions, hundreds of illustrations, dozens of creatures, items, adventure ideas, and so on.

(Almost) Free Download: Dark Dungeon 2nd Ed.

Update: Dark Dungeon 2nd was the forerunner of The World Beyond.
You can no longer download the DD2 set of rules, but you can buy a sampler of The World Beyond for a ridiculously low price on DriveThru or RPGNow. It's even better in print form. The sampler will allow you to make a basic hero, and will allow you to have a taste of the system.

You can also find the full rulebooks on DriveThru. Try, read and enjoy!

The game this site was launched for.
Fantasy Role Playing Beyond Your Imagination.
From the Dark Netherlands, since 1989, common calendar.

Dark Dungeon 2nd Ed. is one of the most elegant, fast, and yet "realistic" sets of rules you'll find. And it's here, in lite form, free for download.

Featured in the 25 page booklet are:
- how to play
- character creation with eleven sample professions
- innovative spell weaving with ten sample disciplines
- faith and miracles with three sample saints
- advice on game mastering
- a sample adventure

Try, read, and enjoy.

Free Download: French Invade Texas RPG

It's been revamped!
A surprisingly historical role playing game, 80 pages of background, pd-artwork, system,
setting, examples, very historic but adventurous characters, and a full campaign of six episodes based on true events.
Originally I wrote this game after being inspired by the very positive review on DD by Rob Lang on the free rpg blog, I decided to have a go at the 24-hour role playing game challenge. You might still find the 50-ish page version there. But this one is better :-)

The year is 1684
The world is in turmoil
The English are between civil wars
The Spanish king is insane and epileptic
The Spanish are at war with everyone
And...
The French Invade Texas
Enjoy!

Free Download: Santiago Joe RPG

A free pay-what-you-want, diceless, fast paced Role Playing Game named Santiago Joe where you are the movie STARS and the WRITER-DIRECTOR of the many Adventure B-Movies of Oblivion. Movies that never were, but that you would have loved to see.

Enjoy them during college, your coffee break, when you can't sleep on the phone, while you're on the bus, or just when there's nothing on TV.

July 2009 I had another go at the 24-hour role playing game challenge. I decided to put a little more work in, and here it is full fledged: a play-anywhere adventure roleplaying game!

No dice needed, just devious or wacky creativity. It's yours to play with under a creative commons license (Attribution-Non-commercial-Share-Alike). Enjoy!

Update: the link to the game has been dead for a while. It is now available pay what you want on RPG Now.
